Where do you find the time?

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement regarding my up coming novel!  One question friends are asking me is, “Where  did you find the time?” That’s a great question! I have been wanting to write a book since I was twelve years old, but I didn’t get real serious about until about six years ago.  Over that time, I have researched on how to write a novel, how to get it published, how to create characters, an so on and so forth.  Meanwhile I had started several novels which I didn’t continue until I started this one. Last year in January I started writing but because of the busy year I had, I had to put it on hold. This passed January, another new year had begun and I told myself this was going to be the year I would publish my novel. My hubby gave me a new lap top for Christmas and that was one of the reasons it was more achievable.

Every evening after supper, in my Grandad’s comfy chair that is draped with a quilt, I would sit with my feet up on the ottoman and type to my heart’s content.  Sometimes I would stare at the screen with the TV on and not type a thing and then other times I would type so much I would lose track of the time. I just made it a priority to always sit down at the same time every day and it was very effective. The weekends I would sometimes find more time, but generally it was the evenings on weekdays. At first it was a routine that took getting used to, but by the time I finished the first draft of my manuscript I felt like, “What shall I do with the rest of my life?” It was a joke I told myself. But there is more to writing a book than you think, which I am finding out. I am enjoying the journey and hope you will follow me as I take this giant leap forward.chair

    • Thanks Arley! you can find time! I just set my mind to it and did it. I gave myself a time frame and an approximate word count. I decided what time of the day I could do it, and whether it was for 15 minutes or 2 hours, getting in the habit helps you get it done. Believe me, I didn’t think it would be possible at first but I persevered, now I am publishing my first novel! I know it can be frustrating when you can’t think of things to write some days, but keep pressing on, you can do it! Looking forward to seeing you in Oct. too, maybe I will be able to bring my novel! 🙂
